MJ Landscapers
Most landscaping companies grow by widening their service area. We went the other way — Oakville and Burlington, nothing further. Every advantage we have over a larger competitor comes from that one decision.
Our story
Still local
MJ Landscapers was started by friends Jase Lachowiez and Michael Lakatos while they were still at Garth Webb Secondary School in Oakville, cutting neighbourhood lawns with their parents' mowers. The observation that shaped it: homeowners in Oakville and Burlington were not short of landscaping companies. They were short of ones that showed up when they said they would.
So we built the business around that instead of around growth. Tight radius. A phone number that reaches someone who has actually stood in your yard.

None of these are remarkable. They are just the things that get skipped when a company is stretched too thin.
Diagnosis before installation
We work out why something is failing before selling you the fix. New sod over a drainage problem dies exactly the way the old lawn did, and we would rather say so than take the job twice.
One phone number
It reaches someone who has stood in your yard. No account manager relaying messages to a crew lead who never got them.

What we will tell you that others won’t
We lose some quotes because of this. We would rather lose the quote than install something we know will fail.

When a lawn is the wrong answer
If an area gets under four hours of sun, no sod or seed mix will give you a thick lawn. We will recommend a shade planting or mulch bed instead of selling you sod that thins out by August and needs replacing again next year.

When the problem is inside, not outside
Exterior grading and downspout work solves a large share of damp basements. But not all of them. If we think the issue is beyond what exterior drainage can fix, we will tell you rather than taking your money for work that will not solve it.

When your existing hardscape can be repaired
Settled interlock is usually a base problem, not a paver problem. If we can lift the section, correct the base and reset your existing pavers, we will quote that instead of a full replacement — even though the replacement is the bigger job.

When it is worth keeping what you have
Most established gardens have a few plants genuinely thriving. Clearing the whole bed is faster for us and worse for you. We design around the survivors, which costs less and does not look like it was installed yesterday.
