Spring & Fall Cleanups
Spring and fall cleanups are included in Mowing + Garden, and they are also part of our garden services.
Spring cleanup
Leaves, twigs and branches that built up over winter are cleared from the lawn and beds, so new growth gets light and air from the start of the season.
Fall cleanup
Leaves are cleared off the lawn before snow arrives. A wet mat of leaves left on grass blocks light and leads to matted dead patches and snow mould in spring.

Consistency is the whole product. A lawn cut properly every week looks better than one cut brilliantly whenever someone remembers. Here’s what happens while we’re there.

Walk the property first
Toys, hoses, pet waste and branches get cleared or flagged before a blade turns. Nothing gets shredded and thrown.

Mow in alternating directions
We change the cut pattern week to week so the grass is not always pushed the same way. It stands up straighter and stops rutting along the same lines.

Trim and edge by hand
Around trees, beds, fences, posts and the walkway. This is the part that reads as tidy from the street, and it is the part most often rushed.

Blow down and check the gate
Driveway, walkways and patio cleared of clippings, and gates latched.

Details most crews skip
Anyone can push a mower. These are the habits that separate a maintained lawn from a mowed one.
Sharp blades, every day
A dull blade tears grass instead of cutting it, leaving frayed white tips that brown within days. Blades come off and get sharpened on a schedule, not when someone notices.
Three inches through summer
Higher than most expect. Taller grass shades its own roots, holds moisture through July heat and crowds out crabgrass without chemicals.
Never more than a third off
Cutting too much at once shocks the plant and invites disease. If growth got ahead of us after rain, we cut twice rather than scalping it once.
Alternating cut patterns
Mowing the same direction weekly compacts the same wheel lines and leans the grass one way. Rotating keeps the turf upright and even.
Clippings mulched back
Returned to the lawn, they return nutrients to the soil. We bag instead when growth is heavy or you want it fully cleared.
Dry-first scheduling
Mowing saturated turf rips roots and leaves ruts. If your day is a washout we shift you rather than damage the lawn to stay on schedule.

Lawn mowing covers the grass: mowing, line trimming around edges and obstacles, and blowing clippings off walkways and driveways. Lawn mowing plus garden maintenance adds the beds, so edging, light pruning and deadheading are handled on the same visit. Most clients with planted beds choose the second option, because a sharp lawn beside an overgrown bed still looks unfinished.

Nothing changes. We carry on with the scheduled visit and treat the property as though it were our own. All we need is reliable gate access. If you would rather we only came when you are home, we set that up at the start of the season.

When should you stop mowing in the fall?
Soil temperature is a key factor. Grass growth slows when soil temperatures drop below 10°C. Use a soil thermometer to check. If readings consistently stay below this threshold, it’s time to halt mowing.
How short to cut grass before winter?
Set your mower to cut grass to 5-6 cm before winter. This height protects the root system and reduces the risk of disease. Longer grass can trap moisture, leading to fungal growth.
